How can I use DelVal’s Full Text Finder in Google Scholar when I’m off campus?

To see Full Text Finder when you’re using Google Scholar off campus, configure your “Library Links” preferences for Delaware Valley University. If you are on campus, this will happen automatically.

1. Go to scholar.google.com
2. Select “Settings” from the top menu.
3. Select “Library Links” from the sidebar
4. Search “Delaware Valley University”
5. Save "Full text @ DelVal Lib"

How can I find out if the library subscribes to a specific journal?

On the library website, click the Research Tools menu and select Journals by Title from the dropdown.

How do I suggest that the Library add a journal subscription to its collection?

We appreciate getting suggestions for journals that will make our collection better. Please contact Peter Kupersmith, Library Director, with your recommendations.

How do I suggest that the Library add a book to its collection?

How can I get a book or article not available at the library?

Books and articles not available at DelVal can be requested through the WorldCat Interlibrary Loan Service. This process takes few days but is completely free for DelVal students, faculty, and staff. Before you submit an ILL, check Google Scholar or Summon to see if we have immediate access or if it is freely available online.

How long does it take to get something from Interlibrary Loan?

Book requests can arrive in several days, while more involved requests can take several weeks. Journal articles are typically delivered within a day or two. Keep in mind that requests submitted Friday through Sunday most likely won’t get processed until Monday.

How can I renew my interlibrary loan materials?

Renewals are decided by the lending library. Contact Claire Drolet, Access Services Librarian, to see if a renewal is possible.

Textbooks and Reserves

How do I place materials on reserve?

We welcome instructor copies in order to provide students with access to as many of their required materials as possible.

Please contact Claire Drolet, Access Services Librarian, with any questions.

Will the Library scan my materials to put on reserve?

We do not offer scanning services for reserve materials, but you may scan your own materials and make them available on your Canvas or link full-text articles available from one of the Library’s subscriptions.

How do I know if something counts as “fair use”?

Fair use is part of copyright law and allows you to use copyrighted materials without permission under certain circumstances. Library Copyright has an online tool to help  you understand if the use of a protected work is a “fair use.” It helps users collect, organize, and document the information they may need to support a fair use claim, and provides a time-stamped PDF document for the users’ records.

How can I learn about new materials I can use for my course?

If you are adding new materials to your course, interested in a specific title, or in the process of building a course, use this form to see if we can purchase an unlimited eBook license or make an OER recommendation.

If an unlimited license isn’t available from publishers (which is unfortunately often the case), the library can help you explore free/low-cost alternatives.

Are there options or resources available for replacing expensive material in my course?

Yes, there are several options for reducing course material costs for your students, ranging from placing your textbook on reserve to adopting or creating an Open Educational Resource (OER).

What courses already have OER or library-licensed textbooks?

You can see a list of all of the course textbooks provided by the library on our Course eTextbooks webpage. Most have unlimited access.

Printing and Scanning

Is there a printer I can use?

Any library PCs can print to Printer 1 or Printer 2 in the library’s Print Center. They can print on 8.5x11" or 11x17", both of which are available in the Print Center and stocked in the machine. We can print to other paper types and sizes if the machine is programmed correctly. Free black & white, color, and double-sided printing are available. Ask a Library Assistant or Librarian to help with special paper requests.

Is there a scanner that I can use?

There are FOUR scanners in the print center.

ScannX 1 - the smaller of the two, this one is best for single pages and odd sizes. You can close the lid on the scanner to catch the finer details of a page of handwritten notes, or an old newspaper.

ScannX 2 - this is the larger, overhead scanning one. This is best for multiple pages of a book, as it has several features to make the book easier to scan and come out in different formats.

Printer 1 and 2 (Xerox) - these are best for multiple-page documents, like a stack of pages. It should only be used for a standard size, 8.5x11" page, and it would be unwise to try anything but standard plain paper (i.e. not something delicate or easily torn in the feeder). Documents can be fed into the top and emailed or copied directly as needed using the control panel.
