Identifying Peer-Reviewed Articles

Peer reviewed articles will have the follow traits:

  • to share new, original research
  • actually did the research, not just writing about someone else's
  • is an expert in his/her field
  • lots of technical language/information
  • often has abstract
  • often broken down into introduction, methods, results, and conclusion sections
  • lots of in-text and end citations

Once you have an article, the easiest way to tell it is peer-reviewed is to look up the journal title in our Journals by Title list.

For example, if I search "BMC Microbiology" and click on the journal's title, I will see a page with information about that journal. At the bottom is the peer-review check.
