Resource Types

The purpose of this assignment is to add facts outside of your belief system. Exploring different sources allows you to gain more information about an issue and to provide the best care possible. 

When doing your research, you will have access to a wide variety of resources. It is important to understand the strengths and weaknesses of each type.

Research articles

  • fairly strict format
  • original research
  • written by experts
  • reviewed by other experts before article is published in the journal in order to ensure the article’s quality
  • more reliable conclusions

Review articles

  • not original research
  • synthesize or analyze research already conducted in primary sources
  • summarize the current state of research on a given topic

Case reports

  • examination of a specific single observation
  • first line of evidence in health care
  • tool to disseminate information on unusual clinical syndromes, disease associations, unusual side effects to therapy, or response to treatment
  • more current information

To create a RefWorks account:

  1. Go to the link below and click Use login from my institution
  2. Fill in your information, making sure to use your DelVal email address.  
  3. Go to your inbox and click the email link to complete the activation process.

As a RefWorks user, you can set your profile to reflect resources and create bibliographies using the APA 7th - Sentence Casing, DOI: 

NOTE: There are citation style variations of APA 7th available to choose from in RefWorks so please select and apply the following version: APA 7th - Sentence Casing, DOI:

To set and update your citation style, select the All References tab on the left menu, and change the View display on your RefWorks dashboard to Citation View. Click on the settings gear Settings Gear in RefWorks. Search for and select the APA 7th - Sentence Casing, DOI: and click Save.
